Hayden's list

Hayden I tried my darndest to ignore the addition of "Van Helsing" to your list, and even "Demolition man" (I'll put that down as you have something for Wesley Snipes)
but to have not included "Godfather" is the insults of all insults.
Yes, I acknowledge that the book was better than the movie (And with the exception of LOTR, minus ROTK how many movies surpass the book), but it still deserves respect and a place near the top of your list for being the masterpiece it is in it's own right.
How many one-liners have been spawned from this one movie (note, I have not mentioned 2&3)? I'm sure that some of y'all don't even know where you get some of your phrases until you rewatch the movie.
If you haven't watched it, watch it
If you have, watch it again.

  • Funny enough it is my list and not the list approved by a group of my peers. What is on the list is what I like. Thus Van Helsing stays, and Die Hard will never make it. I loved the GodFather series but currently it is not on my list. Neither is Toy Story . The list isn't complete but movies added will be because i like thwm not because I was bullied into them.

Demolition Man had Wesley Snipes who portrayed one of the meanest villians; really anti-social. Wanton violence!

  • you make a good point, and I have no intention of bullying you into making any additions, I'm just in disbelief at the absence of this particular classic which you yourself admit to loving.

  • The thing is there are wonderful movies that should be on my list but simply because I haven't seen them, or seen them in their entirety, or saw them too long ago to remember the details of why I loved them, I cannot honestly put them on my list.

I saw the Godfather trilogy in 1992/93. I know I saw it and I remember images from it but can't tell you much about it. I know it's a great movie but most of that sentiment is a result of 2 decades of being told it's great. I recall thinking that the 3rd one had something missing from it. It was different in some way (other than the stars) yet I can't tell you how and it may be because I watched all three 1 after the other.

Some of the movies on my list made it there after several viewings because that was how long it took me to appreciate them.

On the lyme we talked about movies and once again we laughed at Mark H about the inclusion of Die Hard and I heard others talk about movies I didn't rate after seeing them or didn't bother to see because the preview sucked. I now have to go watch a few of them over to see what I had missed.

What I had hoped to start with my movie list blog was to generate interest so that others would add lists of those they liked. When that didn't happen I enlarged my list to include all those I could remember.

Rohan pointed out that over 300 movies are released each year and its almost impossible to watch them all or catch all the great ones. I'm just trying to help the filtering process.

  • ok, I guess I can understand that you can't include all the movies that you'ld like in your list, but I just think that movies that earn love and respect after just one viewing (and not after built up appreciation from several viewings) should be atleast a consideration. I mean, it deserves atleast silent appreciation if scenes are still staying with you from 92/92 til now.
