week in review

For those who haven't been updated by the BBC-Hylton

This week has basically been anything but normal for me, but knowing that I will have to answer a few questions when next some of you see me I will give an edited review to act as a buffer.

On monday while driving to work from my sis I came across a line of traffic along Russell Heights. Slow moving but moving none the less.
Coming closer to the end of Russell Heights (where you start to notice an actual slope in the road and everyone around seems to be doing construction cause everywhere you look has sand and gravel on the side) the traffic lightens up and we all start moving at a moderate pace.
2 cars ahead a lady decided to stop to let someone out of their driveway so the car ahead of me stopped and I too stop. A few seconds after I hear skidding and felt a collision. Next thing I know I'm pushed into the car ahead of me and I'm still being pushed despite my foot flooring the brake pedal.
When we come out of our vehicles I realize that the guy behind me pushed me into the guy ahead who got pushed into the lady ahead who had decided to play good samaritan...that's right, 4 cars.
Guy who crashed into me (Nicholas) came over to check how I am, apparently I'm not looking to great. He suggested I lock off my engine, didn't even realize it was still running. Guy I ran into (Peter) came over to check on me too, maybe I'm really not looking good. Next thing I know the lady at the head of the collision (Nicole) has me seated in the car doing breathing exercises. Tried to protest but decided against it cause all 3 drivers seemed to insist on thinking I don't look well. Deep breath in, deep breath out.
So we get to the exchange of documents part, and I reached to hand Nicholas my papers (by now we all on a first name basis and quite social, would have been a nice group except for the meeting circumstances), and I can't stop my hands from shaking which completely went against the cool, adult composure I was going for (but then again that was probably shot to bits when I was forced to do breathing exercises on the side of the road).
Cutting a long story short (ha...too late) the police came cause by then we had started to make traffic back up. My sis came to check on me and make sure I was ok. The third parties babied me and kept asking if I was ok, would have liked to tell them I would have been better if I wasn't then but couldn't get the words out; on the plus side they collected all their respective info for me so I guess there is something to say for being babied. We eventually all left afterwhich my bro managed to make it thru the traffic to check on me, but alas, already gone.

Car felt weird. Driving to work I tried to remember if that was how the steering had felt before. There was a new sound coming from the front of my car that had me more concerned. Prayed to God that I would make it to my office to explain to my supervisor, she would let me take the rest of the day, and that I would make it home safely. God grants wishes, I'll tell you that.
So I got the rest of the day, drove home, had my mom and dad fuss over me for a bit, even more so after they saw the car, went to my insurance company, the police and then the doctor who sent me for xrays (yes, I know...my priorities are a bit screwed up but that was the way the traffic took me and considering is ride I begging...)

Tuesday is much less eventful, thank God, but the pain I was feeling in my neck from the day before was ridiculous. The cataflam helped a bit as did the voltaren but the pain felt masked rather than gone. Work dragged for what seemed like forever and when evening came I decided to go home and rest instead of going to pan (sorry guys)

Wednesday heard I had to go get fitted for a collar during lunch. Protested. Tried convincing my mom and my doctor the pain wasn't all that but they had pretty convincing rebuttals so gave in and got a new accessory to go with my wardrobe. On the plus side I got to introduce mom to Rae's sis.
Returned to work and had heads turning, people who didn't notice me before stopping to ask me a million and one questions, having to tell a shorthanded story (someone rearended me) over and over, along with the phrase "it looks much worse than it really is".
Regarding my Subie which the mechanic checked out on Tuesday, apart from the apparent rear of vehicle - bumper, lights, trunk; right door which can no longer close, roof which bent right above said door; and front of vehicle, bumper, lights, and hood, the chassis is bent so he's thinking of putting it as a write-off :(
So now I have insurance, half a tank of gas, all paperwork up-to-date, a rand new battery and no vehicle. I miss my subie and the freedom it allowed me. ahh.
The rest of the week, as "eventful" as it is shaping up to be is kept under wraps even from BBC, and not all that interesting either so nothing anyone really missing out on.
I'll be returning to pan soon but my doc has me under strict rest restrictions which I'll be trying to bend soon.
On the plus side, I haven't hurt my hands.

  • Well if it's any consolation, Nix, I'm only finding out a week and a half later. So I guess BBC doesn't get to everyone.

  • You need to get back to pan. In house doctors will evaluate you and see if you are fit to play (we don't take outside evaluations even if they have been in practice longer and have more training).

    Feel better! Command not suggestion!
